Continuing Education Committee
Purpose:
To sponsor and promote valuable workshops relating to the education and certification of Vermont Clerks and Treasurers, to coordinate with support agencies in the presentation of seminars and workshops pertinent to Vermont Clerks and Treasurers, to increase proficiency and strengthen the quality of local government.
The VMCTA Continuing Education sponsors various educational trainings a year. You can register for any of the VMCTA events on the Meetings and Events page of the website.
- Spring Fundamentals Training- a day long training hosted in two different locations around Vermont in late spring. Two different tracks are offered focusing on the basic skills needed to perform the duties of Clerk and Treasurer. Education sessions are led by seasoned Vermont Clerks and Treasurers.
- VMCTA Annual Fall Conference- Two full days of a variety of education sessions for both Clerks and Treasurers. Expert speakers lead sessions both on core topics directly related to the daily duties of the job, as well as sessions on leadership, human resources, management, and personal development needed to grow both personally and professionally. For those Clerks and Treasurers seeking certification, mandatory core classes required for initial certification are offered bi-annually at the annal fall conference.
- First Thursday Trainings (FTT)- New in 2024, First Thursday trainings are a monthly online training focusing on specific duties of Clerks or Treasurers. FTT are offered 10 times a year (not Jan or July) via zoom from 4:00-5:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month. Expert speakers share a brief 30 presentation and the last 30 minutes are left as a general Q&A for participants to ask their questions surrounding the subject matter.
- Athenian Dialogues- Athenian Dialogues are conversations that go beyond the usual knowledge recall and application process familiar to all municipal clerks in training seminars. They are unique because they explore leadership principles and practice, drawing on the insights contained in a book that all participants have read. Dialogues are six-hour conversations in which Clerks share their experience and understanding as it relates to the ideas of the author and the relevance of those ideas to their public leadership role. Generally offered in the Fall.
The VMCTA Continuing Education Committee is always looking for fresh ideas for speakers and educational topics. Please contact Chair, Sara Haskins with any questions or suggestions: (802) 888-6370 or [email protected]
